Land Management in the Santa Rosa Plain

Sebastopol Meadowfoam (Limnanthes vinculans) Sotoyome Resource Conservation District (SRCD) has been involved in land management activities in the Santa Rosa Plain since 2002. A unique opportunity exists in SRCD's management role to bring communities together in the preservation of important natural resources. Current properties house rare and endangered plant and animal species, such as Sebastopol Meadowfoam, Sonoma Sunshine, and California Tiger Salamander in a combination of grassland and vernal pool wetland.

Regulations require development to mitigate for impacts on sensitive habitat. Properties can serve as mitigation banks where credits can be sold to enhance property wetlands and in conjunction with public funds, a monetary base is created. SRCD is currently working with several local grazers in providing an essential service for non-native weed control.

Sotoyome RCD management activities include grazing plan development, oversight of grazing leases with local grazers, infrastructure improvement, weed management and other habitat improvement projects, coordination, monitoring, and technical assistance to ensure site enhancement and preservation. For more information please contact the Sotoyome RCD at 707.569.1448.
